lilmeli: Here is my story. Thank you for welcoming us =) (preg & loss ment)

Hi Ladies and once again thanks for being so kind and letting us join... Here is our story:

The DH and I have been together for 7 years now. After being together for 31/2 years we found out we were pregnant in Nov '99. As it was our 1st pregnancy of course we thought everything would be perfect. Everything was going perfect until my 20th week when I started having some lower back pain and spotting. That night we went into L&D and we were told everything looked great and that sometimes spotting occurs in pregnancy. The very next night I still felt out of it. I got into bed and noticed I was having some cramping. I started to look at the clock and noticed they were exactly 5 min apart. I called DH(he was still at work) and told him we needed to go back to L&D. By the time we got there I was in severe pain. I was hooked up to the monitor and my cx's were coming in every 2 min. When the OB examined me she said"you are 5-6 cm dialated, 100% effaced... sorry there is nothing we could do". The DH and I looked at eachother confused and in shock, we were speechless. I requested an epidural...on 4/11/99 @6:45 am my son was born. He weighed a tiny 320g and we named him Angel. His autopsy report came back fine and it was determined I went into PTL.

One year and a half later we were pregnant again... this time I was sent in to see a Peri because a month before it was suspected that I miscarried but it was never confirmed. My pregnancy was going great and I even had cervical scans every 2 weeks. My cervix was shortening but my Peri assured me I was in no danger. 2 weeks later, the day before my next scan I noticed some spotting. Off again to L&D... I was 3 cm dialated. I was put on bedrest with my feet up to see if my membranes would slip back into my uterus to then have a rescue cerclage but no luck. On 2/15/01 @ 6:45 pm my daughter Angelita was born weighing 340g. This time we opted to hold our baby and she was the most precious thing! I was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix and was told I would need a preventative cerclage with my next pregnancy.

We decided to wait a few years and so I got on the pill. But much to our surprise on 7/14/01 I found out I was pregnant. On 9/13/01 I had my cerclage in place and we were wonderful. Then at 20 weeks I had some wierd discharge. We had a sonogram and the Peri saw that my cervix was funneling from the inside out. I was put on bedrest at home. Throughout my bedrest I had many episodes of cx's but they were all due to dehydration. Then @24w3d I had some terrible cx's that would not go away!! I went to L&D and was 1 cm dialated. I was the put on magnesium sulfate for 48 hours and was given 2 doses of steroids. Given my history of losses I was admitted indefinetly. I was put on every drug throughout my stay at the hospital to stop cx's, but on 12/25/01 my water broke. Due to high risk of infection my cerclage was removed(ouch!!!). The funny thing is after having so many problems keeping my cervix closed, this time I wouldn't dialate past 5 cm! After TWENTY-SIX HOURS of labor I was rushed in to have a stat c-section because my baby's heart rate was dipping. Eddie Jr was born on 12/26/01 @ 3:45pm weighing 2lbs1oz and was 15in long. His apgars were 5/6/8. He stayed a total of 49 days in the NICU and came home on 2/12/02 weighing 4lb6oz.

He is the best gift I could ever have received and treasure each and every day with him!

He was supposed to be born on 3/21/02, but is now 15lbs13oz and over 25in long. We had a neonatal follow up and had great news! Although he is behind for his 7 months he is right on target for the age he is supposed to be which is 18 weeks.

Thanks for reading!

~Meli and Eddie Jr~
